Jakarta, 17 April 2026  The rapid development of technology and the accelerating flow of information in the digital era have reshaped the field of communication. Today, communication is not only about delivering messages, but also about interpreting information critically, using data as a basis for decision-making, and adapting to dynamic change. Addressing these needs, BINUS University, through its Master of Communication Science Program, signed a collaboration agreement with the Association of Higher Education in Communication Science (ASPIKOM) for the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) region on 14 April at BINUS @Kemanggisan – Anggrek Campus.

Through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), BINUS and the ASPIKOM Jabodetabek reaffirm their shared commitment to advancing communication studies. This collaboration is expected to strengthen academic quality, support curriculum relevance, and encourage closer alignment between higher education, industry needs, and society. Strengthening the Master of Communication Science Program is therefore an important part of this shared agenda,” Rector Nelly stated in her opening remarks.

More than a formal signing, the meeting became a space for discussion between BINUS University, ASPIKOM Jabodetabek, the advisory board, and communication experts from the Greater Jakarta region. It was then followed by two workshops centered on curriculum development, industry insight, and accreditation.

For Dr. Erna Febriani, Head of ASPIKOM Jabodetabek, the discussion on quality assurance and curriculum strengthening is highly relevant as part of a collective effort to help 102 communication study programs in the region achieve excellent accreditation.

“The indicators used in the accreditation system are becoming more complex. That is why we need to align our understanding and work together to help communication study programs in this region achieve excellent accreditation. This effort must be supported by improvements in quality assurance, better lecturer performance, and especially stronger implementation of Outcome-Based Education in the curriculum,” she emphasized.

This focus on quality assurance and curriculum strengthening also aligns with BINUS University’s effort to develop a more adaptive and industry-relevant curriculum, particularly in digital communication, media analytics, and public communication. These areas are becoming increasingly important as the communication field faces more complex challenges, from managing information flows and public narratives to building trust and responding to issues that move across sectors, platforms, and borders.

Moving forward, the collaboration will cover various academic and professional initiatives, including internships, seminars, training, community engagement, workshops for lecturers and students, curriculum development, research, and other relevant programs. These activities are expected to strengthen knowledge exchange between BINUS University and ASPIKOM Jabodetabek, while supporting the development of communication studies that remain adaptive to industry and societal needs.
