Jakarta, 26 September – BINUS University has partnered with TAFE Queensland, with support from the Indonesian and Australian governments —represented by the Ministry of National Development Planning of the Republic of Indonesia, known as Bappenas, and the Australian Embassy in Jakarta—to launch a Micro-Credential Program for Indonesians – the first initiative for this program.

Seeing the increasing demand for skilled workers, we have built collaboration with Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Queensland, Australia. TAFE is the largest education and training sector in Australia, offering a diverse range of courses and subjects that equip them with practical and vocational skills that relevant to various professional careers.

TAFE in Queensland operates in more than 60 locations across the state. With over 140 years of experience in delivering industry-aligned training and education, it has brought over 144,000 students each year. With its established reputation, our collaboration with TAFE Queensland has enabled us to design micro-credential programs as short courses tailored to the needs of both the Indonesian and global labor markets.

Prof. Firdaus Alamsjah, Ph.D., Director of BINUS CREATES, emphasized, “Aligned with our vision and mission to deliver world-class education and empower our society in building and serving the nation, we are expanding the Micro Credential program to be accessible to the public.”

As one of the largest economies and populations in the Asia Pacific region, Indonesia continues to enhance the quality of its human resources to achieve the vision of “Indonesia Emas 2045.” Based on data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) as of February 2024, the number of Indonesia’s workforce has grown to 142.18 million, indicating positive economic growth and an increasing demand for skilled workers, especially in this era of digitalization and globalization.

BINUS Center’s Retail Manager, Ms. Ayu Rachmawati, outlined the short courses collaboratively developed with TAFE Queensland on the BliBli platform, stating, “We have begun rolling out 12 short courses designed to meet the needs of professionals in today’s digital and global era, including leadership development, communication skills, digital literacy, online research, and subjects related to mental health, diversity, and engagement with individuals with disabilities.”

By leveraging the combined strengths of both, we seek to empower Indonesians to advance their careers while fostering collaboration between our nations as part of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA), known as Katalis, particularly in the areas of economics, investment, and sustainability. This collaborative program is essential for BINUS University in aiding Indonesia’s journey towards becoming a leading economic power in the region by 2045.

Mr. Russell Mckay, General Manager of TAFE Queensland, remarked, “We provide easy access to short courses and training programs that we have designed for the public. Participants who complete the courses or training receive a certificate that is recognized in the professional world. By collaborating with BINUS University, we have developed short courses that align with Indonesia’s industry needs, incorporating international standards that we continuously improve.”

“Participants completing the learning process and final exam will be awarded a certificate, which they can use for career progression or when seeking new employment,” Ms. Ayu added. Through these short courses, we hope to not only enhance the technical competencies of the Indonesian workforce but also their soft skills.

Lastly, the partnership is part of our ongoing commitment in our vision to foster and empower the society in building the nation. In addition, this will also promote educational opportunities that equip with knowledge and practical skills, where not only designed to enhance personal and professional growth but drive progress and innovation in the society.
