BINUS and Macquarie Students Gain Firsthand Industry Exposure Through a Joint Company Visit to PT Channel Solutions Indonesia
Jakarta, 30 June 2026 – The partnership between BINUS University and Macquarie University has grown stronger since it began in 2008, supported by continuous collaboration across academic programs and student activities. Among these initiatives is the Joint Company Visit, part of the immersion program, which has become a regular agenda in recent years to connect students with real industry practices. This year, the program brought 28 students from both institutions to PT Hitachi Channel Solutions (HCS) Indonesia, where students learned not only about the company’s business vision and processes but also engaged in a leadership dialogue with President Director Masanabu Segawa and Ryan Irawan, Head of the Business & Marketing Department.

HCS Indonesia, a subsidiary of Hitachi Channel Solutions, Corp., a global leader in Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) solutions, has been part of BINUS’ industry partnership network since 2025. Through the Joint Company Visit, BINUS continues to develop a triangular collaboration model that brings together BINUS, international university partners, and industry partners to connect academic learning with direct industry exposure and professional culture, as reflected in this collaboration among BINUS University, Macquarie University, and HCS Indonesia.

“This visit offers more than an introduction to Hitachi. It gives students the opportunity to see how cross-functional teamwork and cultural diversity are practiced in a real workplace environment. We believe innovation begins when universities and industries work together. That is why we are very excited to welcome students and lecturers from BINUS and Macquarie University to explore how technology is applied in real business situations. Through this event, we hope students will gain useful insights into professional work and future career opportunities in a more global environment,” shared Wana Hodori, Head of Human Capital Management Section at HCS Indonesia.

The dialogue session with the leaders and experts drew students’ curiosity about how the company has developed its business systems in Indonesia since 2015. Although many students associate the Hitachi Group with electronic products, HCS Indonesia shows a different part of its business portfolio. With a focus on IT, the company provides the provision of ATM solutions and related services in the Indonesian market, and significant contributions have been made to the development of the country’s financial infrastructure.

“The experience offers students two important learning points. First, they can see how what they learn at university is applied in a real company, including concepts such as agile methods. Second, they are introduced to new areas of business, from company processes and client relationships to different departments. This helps them understand the kind of roles and career paths they may want to explore in the future,” explained Scott Xu, a lecturer from Macquarie University who supervised the students for this immersion program.

“Learning directly from the company really opened our minds and broadened our perspective on how the industry actually works. At Hitachi, we were able to see the standards applied in a real company environment, which motivated us to keep improving so we can meet, or even exceed, those standards. Thank you to BINUS and Hitachi for giving me the opportunity to visit and experience Hitachi’s internal labs. It was very insightful for me,” said Michael Janto, a BINUS International student majoring in Business Information Systems.

For Aaron Pang, a Macquarie University student majoring in Software Technology, the visit to HSC Indonesia made him feel more connected to a global learning environment, especially through the warm welcome he received.
“What stood out to me was seeing how many different parts of a business have to work together to create a functioning product and company. It was something I had not really experienced before. The visit was also interesting from a cultural perspective. We are similar in many ways and can get along like friends, but at the same time, we each bring different cultural lenses. Talking about the differences between Australia and Indonesia, while also recognizing our common ground, made the experience even more valuable. It gave me real insight into an industry I am interested in and helped me understand the departments, decisions, and processes behind it,” added Aaron.

Overall, the Joint Company Visit to HCS Indonesia showed how the triangular collaboration has become a direct learning experience where academic insight, international perspective, and industry practice came together. With BINUS at the center of this network, the program connects our students, international university partners, and industry partners to create shared opportunities for learning, collaboration, and professional exposure.
